the Executive Vice President of Sonat Exploration to design, and then facilitate, a two-day series of meetings for the 20 people on the Steering Committee and Task Force assigned to develop a critical corporate Safety Management Plan. Interviewed the project Sponsor, and key members of the Steering Committee and Task Force, to determine their expectations from the meeting. a complex, four-day series of business meetings to develop a five-year strategic plan for a major division of Citicorp. Worked with the President and CEO to:

Meeting culminated in the creation of key elements of their five-year strategic plan.

Planned and Facilitated . . .

a ten-day series of business meetings for a major division of Citicorp to:
  • recognize superior performers
  • provide training for those performers
  • get input from them on company plans and directions.

Temple Meetings included more than seventy field representatives and several senior-level executives, assembled to address the group and work with them in training sessions. A series of general sessions and sub-group sessions were designed, culminating in competitive presentations by the various teams.

Business meetings were combined with recreational activities for the attendees and their spouses in and around the Acapulco meeting site.

Planned and Facilitated . . .

a multi-day Strategic Planning Retreat for the thirty-person MIS department of Citibank SLGC. Citibank has since calculated that changes resulting from this retreat saved them $250,000 in the first year alone.

Planned and Facilitated . . .

a quarterly series of complex, multi-day senior management meetings for the International Strategic Initiatives Group (ISIG) of Service Corporation International (SCI). Worked with the VP of International Operations, and his key direct reports, to determine the objectives and expected deliverables for each meeting, then planned the detailed agenda for all general sessions and breakout team sessions. Worked on-site for 4-5 days to facilitate all sessions, and to manage the daily documentation and meeting minutes distribution process. Then worked with the client to develop a database, and a work process, for actively managing all Action Items between quarterly ISIG meetings. Actively managed the follow-up of all action items between meetings.

Also worked with SCI to plan and facilitate additional senior management team off-site meetings, as required.

Worked with . . .

Shuttle Launch NASA to develop a customized workshop on Video Teleconferencing which was specifically matched to the teleconferencing equipment NASA uses (ViTS). Taught managers, scientists and astronauts how to properly plan an agenda, how to use the equipment, and how to avoid common mistakes in conducting a video teleconference. Participants applied their skills to video teleconference between various NASA sites, and also between NASA and Russia's Star City complex where our astronauts were preparing for their work on MIR, and on the new International Space Station.

Worked with . . .

Unocal in Balikpapan, Borneo, to support their reorganization and the formation of matrixed teams. Worked with those intact work teams to develop their meeting skills by conducting the Meeting-Power workshop, then conducting follow-up clinics 6-8 weeks later. Conducted observations of actual meetings throughout the organization and produced written reports of those observations, and provided meeting planning, coaching, mentoring and consulting services, as needed.

Bali Girls

Planned and Facilitated . . .

a multi-day series of meetings to conduct Project Review (also called Lessons Learned) meetings for Unocal Indonesia, to support the continuous improvement of their project management efforts. These meetings involved outside contractors (designers, architects, construction companies) and Unocal employees (engineering, planning, procurement), who had potentially conflicting interests. We were able to avoid any semblance of conflict by designing the meetings in such a way as to capture all the valuable learnings and insights (over 120 fully documented, valuable learnings), while completely overcoming the problems of argumentation and defensiveness which commonly accompany such sensitive meetings.

Planned and Facilitated . . .

a three-day "think tank" session for Ciba-Corning involving twenty-five of the world's leading experts in cardiovascular research. The group developed a long range vision of advancements in this area of research to guide Ciba-Corning's strategic planning for five and ten years into the future.
