Dean Herrington

R. Dean Herrington

R. Dean Herrington is co-founder and president of The Herrington Group, Inc. He is an experienced consultant, instructor, facilitator and speaker known throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia for his excellent workshops and seminars.

A native of Canada, he moved to the United States in the 1960's and furthered his education, earning degrees in Business Administration and Mass Communications (Radio/TV). He served in the United States Army as a Drill Instructor during the Vietnam War, earning a Certificate of Training Achievement for his superior training abilities.

He has been active in a number of organizations, including the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), the National Society for Performance and Instruction (NSPI), The American Society for Quality Control (ASQC), the Association for Quality and Participation (AQP), Toastmasters International, and the World Future Society. He has served as a special consultant to the National Mental Health Assoc., and has provided volunteer consulting services to the Houston Symphony Orchestra. He served as a member of the Board of Advisors to the Houston Symphony, and was a successful fundraiser.

Mr. Herrington is an experienced, polished public speaker. He has competed successfully at several levels of competition in the International Speech Contest held annually by Toastmasters International, becoming an alternate finalist at the World Finals in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has also served as the featured speaker at the International Convention of Toastmasters, and has spoken at several regional and local Toastmasters educational events.

Dean is also an accomplished meeting designer and facilitator, having planned and facilitated such events as a:

  • four-day strategic planning retreat for 40 senior managers
  • working/recreational trip of 10 days for 70 sales reps, sales managers and senior executives to Acapulco
  • three-day problem-solving retreat for 40 middle and senior managers
  • two-day working retreat for the 30 members of the Board of Directors of The Houston Symphony Orchestra
  • three-day "think tank" session for a major drug company involving twenty-five of the world's leading experts in cardiovascular research
  • multi-day retreat for the 30 person MIS department of a major bank, which resulted in ideas that saved $250 thousand in the first year alone.

In addition to the dozens of in-house workshops he conducts for his clients each year he has also presented hundreds of public seminars on a variety of management topics. His client assignments have taken him from Acapulco to Anchorage, San Juan to San Diego, Toronto to Tampa, Boston to Bangkok, and most points in between.

He has lived in places as diverse as Calgary, Alberta; Phoenix, Arizona; and Nuremberg, Germany. His travel interests have taken him throughout Europe, Canada, the US, Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Guam, New Zealand and Australia.

When not working, Dean enjoys playing golf, flying private airplanes (including doing aerobatics), traveling, and photography, always in the company of his wife and business partner, Selina. They now live in Las Vegas, Nevada, accompanied by their Official Office Kitty (OOK), Sinja.
